#Castle Review, 4x20 “The Limey”
Well, this episode pretty much ended just like I
thought it would. Marlowe is really putting Caskett’s relationship
through the wringer before we get happily ever after, but that’s very
fine with me. They’ll only come out stronger. I’m gonna divide this
review into a short and a long version:
Short version Rick and Kate, you are both stupid. Now kiss.
Brett Tucker, please don’t ever try an English accent again.Ever.
Lanie, I’m building you a shrine as I write this.
Long(er) version So, they’re now both seeking comfort in meaningless, random
“relationships” because they both think the other person doesn’t love
them.
I don’t blame Kate for calling Hunt at the end. The disappointment
after Rick basically told her he doesn’t want a serious (complicated)
relationship right now was written all over her face. So I understood
why she did what she did. She thinks she’s too late. And she DID try to
talk to him, so I won’t hold that against her.
I think if anything, this episode really showed just how hurt Rick
really is. He’s trying to cut the cords, even suggesting that Kate and
Hunt should work together. Should he just tell Kate that he knows? Well,
yes and no. On the one hand, it’s
her secret to tell, not his.
On the other hand, just tell the woman what she did wrong and get it
over with. But I don’t think he’s quite there yet. If he told her he
knows, he’d have to put himself out there again emotionally. They’d have
to actually discuss that he’s in love with her and given that he’s
trying to just move on so he stops hurting, I get why he keeps quiet.
Playing an emotionally detached version of yourself is always easier and
I think he’s comfortable in his little bubble right now. Well, as
comfortable as you can be with a broken heart.
What saved this episode for me was the Kate/Lanie stuff. That was so emotionally raw and amazing and real.

KATE: What if it doesn’t work? What if it ends up like you and Javi?
LANIE: Well, at least we gave it a shot. And so it
didn’t work out. So what?! Now we can move on! Give or take the
occasional bootie call.
KATE: I just— I don’t wanna lose what we have, you know?
LANIE: Girl, please. What exactly do you have. Really.
KATE: A friendship?
LANIE: No. What you and I have? Is a friendship.
What you and Castle have? Is a holding pattern. How long can you circle
before the fuel runs out?
* * *
KATE: Hey Lanie, how does it look?
LANIE: Like you waited too long.
KATE: The
vic.
* * *
KATE: Well dressed, attractive woman in a seedy
motel and a guy who flees the crime scene. This might have been a one
night stand gone wrong.
LANIE: Are we talking about the victim or Castle?

Again, best parts of the episode by far.
Brett Tucker, though? Good god. I’m not a native English speaker, but
even to MY ears his English accent sounded embarrassing. I can’t
imagine how it must’ve sounded like to an actual Brit. There was
wayyyyyyy too much of this guy in the episode. I kept wanting to press
“mute” whenever he started talking. Awful casting choice IMO. No
offense.
Where does that leave us? (SPOILERS!) I think 4x21 will end up making Rick re-think his assumption that
Kate doesn’t love him. If he gets hurt while playing cop with Slaughter,
she won’t just stand by and do nothing. I can see a scene where she
gets super emotional and he’s completely taken aback by her outburst.
And maybe it’ll make him see that things aren’t as hopeless as they
seem. I was surprised when I heard that Dr. Burke would be in this one,
cause the spoiler said “late April, early May”, but I’ll take it. The
fact that the guy is back can only mean good things for Kate (and thus,
Caskett). I think this episode will end with some kind of truce between
them. They won’t talk things out before the finale, but they’ll decide
to be partners again. That’s my guess, anyway.
I’m gonna end this review with a quote Andrew Marlowe tweeted
yesterday, a quote that should put everyone’s fears in terms of Caskett
to rest:

“It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that
really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes
you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How
could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had
happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even
darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it
will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you.
That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But
I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories
had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. Because they were
holding on to something… There’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo.
And it’s worth fighting for.”—Sam,
