A Famous Smallville Location Is Indeed In The “Elseworlds” Crossover
When Melissa Benoist shared a photo of herself, Tyler Hoechlin, and Elizabeth Tulloch on a farm earlier today, it showed us that the “Elseworlds” crossover would be visiting Clark Kent’s home town of Smallville. Later, when Stephen Amell shared a picture on Twitter, the farm land looked awfully familiar, though some of Jonathan Kent’s famous cows didn’t seem to be present.
Some pictures taken on Instagram by Melissa Benoist, however, now reveal something bigger: They’re not just in Smallville… they’re directly referencing a famous location from the 2001-2011 Smallville series! We weren’t sure this would be a thing that would happen, considering that the farm was for sale a few years ago…. but yep. This is clearly the famous yellow house that Grant Gustin is walking around in front of. It looks like the image is reversed, but it definitely looks like the same house, with the same steps, the same railings, and the same farm land. If we’re wrong, we’ll own up to it, but it’s looking like a sure thing. (Having been to the house, the back porch might very well be the same as the front, just flip-flopped, so maybe it’s not a reversed photo at all.)
Now, the only thing missing from the crossover is Tom Welling. Get on that, people?
You can see the photos below if you don’t believe us. This year’s DC TV crossover airs December 9, 10, and 11 on The CW.
UPDATE: We have confirmed it: It is indeed the Kent Farm set from Smallville. Get excited, and get speculating!

New Report Says Superman May Get His Own CW Series After All
Superman’s history of being a part of the CW’s Arrowverse has been long and complicated, and may be coming to head in the wake of recent rumors. See if you can follow along here:
Supergirl debuted on CBS in 2015 where it proceeded to draw more viewers than all of the CW superhero shows, but the numbers were still low for CBS.
Supergirl constantly made reference to Superman, her cousin, or Clark Kent, but he was never actually seen throughout season 1.
Supergirl then debuted on the CW for season 2, becoming an official part of the Arrowverse in a grand crossover event. Supergirl’s earth is a parallel earth from The Flash and Green Arrow’s. In season 2, Superman himself was finally seen, played by Tyler Hoechlin.
Hoechlin has since appeared for a cameo or two, but it’s reported that he will play a big part in the Arrowverse “Elseworlds” crossover this upcoming year, appearing in his black suit and with Lois Lane also appearing for the first time, played by Elizabeth Tulloch.
While this crossover event is meant to introduce Ruby Rose’s new Batwoman show, a new report from Fandomwire says that this is also being used as a mini test run for a full on Superman series set in the Arrowverse starring Hoechlin and Tulloch.
Whew, get all that?
SupermanCW
DC is in a strange place right now with its film universe barely holding itself together, its Arrowverse CW web getting larger than ever, but also it launching a new streaming service that has new shows separate from everything like Titans.
What to make of these Superman show reports?
Well, Henry Cavill is officially done playing Superman, moving on to be Geralt in Netflix’s The Witcher series. As such, that may free the CW up to do more with Superman than have him appear as a mere cameo on Supergirl, given that DC seems to hate when its TV shows have versions of its active movie characters (no one is allowed to use Harley Quinn, Gotham’s “Jerome” could never call himself the Joker, etc.)
But even with Cavill gone and Hoechlin assuredly itching for his own series, this would make the CW’s plate even more full than it is now. The Arrowverse now includes Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Batwoman and possibly Black Lightning, though it hasn’t crossed over yet. Add Superman on top of that, and that’s as many Arrowverse shows as there are days in the week. And with most of these airing 20+ episodes a season, I mean, wow.
If Cavill does retire the cape, it could increase the possibility that Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman might get his own TV series. It might sound a bit far-fetched and out of nowhere, but let’s break it down.
RELATED: War Of The Worlds Of DC: What Broke DC Movies, And How Can They Top Marvel? Warner Bros. and DC have been iffy about having Batman and Superman on live-action TV shows recent times, most likely because comic book movies are money-making juggernauts. From a financial standpoint, it makes some level of sense. Why would you saturate or diminish potential billion-dollar characters by putting them on regular TV shows? Seeing these titans should be an extravaganza, not something you experience on a weekly basis.
This is the reason you don’t see the Dark Knight and Man of Steel appearing regularly in The CW’s Arrowverse, much less starring in their own series. The fact that Hoechlin was able to appear on Supergirl as Big Blue at all is a modern miracle. However, the news that he’s coming back in the new season, and bringing Lois Lane with him, leads us to ponder if this, combined with Cavill’s purported exit, is a setup for his own show.
Superman TV Show Reportedly In Development At The CW
A new report suggests that The CW is considering launching a new SupermanTV series. It's claimed that this year's Arrowverse crossover event, Elseworlds, will essentially serve as a backdoor pilot to the show. Its ultimate fate will depend on how viewers respond to the characters in the event. Tyler Hoechlin was introduced as The CW's Superman back in 2016, when he first appeared as a guest star in Supergirlseason 2. The actor was universally praised for his portrayal of the Man of Steel, which seemed to channel the classic Christopher Reeve like no other version seen before. He's set to return in this year's Elseworlds crossover, and will be accompanied by Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane. Related: Elseworlds: Everything You Need To Know About The Arrowverse Crossover According to FandomWire, The CW is treating Elseworlds as a backdoor pilot for a Superman TV series. The CW will be carefully watching how fans and critics alike respond to Hoechlin and Tulloch, assessing whether or not there's sufficient interest in a spinoff. It's a similar approach to the one The CW is believed to be taking with Batwoman, who will be introduced in Elseworlds and is intended to launch her own series.
It's important to note that FandomWire's report is as yet unconfirmed, so at this stage this should only be treated as a rumor. The site's most recent DC TV scoop, the idea of a Batgirl TV series, was essentially debunked. What's more, the outlet does stress that this project is early on in development, and that they're not confident it will come to fruition. At the same time, though, this particular report is a believable one. The CW is clearly interested in expanding its slate of superhero shows, launching Black Lightninglast year and considering a Batwomanseries. Hoechlin's performance as Superman was tremendously well-received. What's more, the decision to cast Lois Lane expands Superman's world perfectly.
The timing of all this is particularly interesting. Back in 2016, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg was delighted when Warner Bros. gave the green light for Superman to be in just a couple of episodes. That's probably because the studio has traditionally been wary of diluting their brands by running the same characters in films as well as TV shows; Warner's plans for Suicide Squadled to Harley Quinn and her team being pulled from Arrow, for example. However, there have been recent reports that Warner Bros. is pivoting away from Ben Affleck's Batman and Henry Cavill's Superman. So that may well have freed Superman up for the small screen again. Right now, this is just a rumor. If it's correct, then there's a lot riding on the success of the Elseworlds crossover. It will be fascinating to see if The CW can pull it off, considering that their previous Superman show, Smallville, ended only a few years ago.
RUMOR: The CW Developing ‘Superman’ TV Series with Tyler Hoechlin
With the constant updates that Henry Cavill will not be returning to the DC Cinematic Universe as Superman, it looks as if WB is shifting the character to the small screen. According to FandomWire, they are hearing that The CW is looking into developing a Superman TV Series. Obviously, the network originally had Smallville which followed Clark Kent (Played by Tom Welling) as he grew into Superman in the final episode. However, due to the massive praise, Supergirl star Tyler Hoechlin has received for his cameo appearances he may get a show himself. The only thing that seems to be off about the report is if the network has a Superman series what will happen to Supergirl? Would make Supergirl almost useless due to their shared villains, storylines, etc. So we will leave this as rumor until more information presents itself… https://thegww.com/rumor-the-cw-developing-superman-tv-series-with-tyler-hoechlin/

Elizabeth Tulloch, who will play the iconic Daily Planet reporter in “Elseworlds,” joined Melissa Benoist (Supergirl) and Tyler Hoechlin (Superman) for a cute family portrait that was taken on set of this year’s crossover, which all three actors shared on Instagram on Wednesday. The photo appears to have been taken on a farm, which may be sign that this year’s three-night event may take visit an important Superman location.
“Two kryptonians and a journalist walk into a crossover,” Benoist captioned the photo on Instagram, while Hoechlin called the two women Clark Kent’s “favorite people” in his post. This, of course, isn’t the first look we’ve gotten at Superman in “Elseworlds.” On Monday, Stephen Amell shared a photo that revealed Hoechlin’s new all-black Superman suit.
This year’s crossover will include Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl, but not Legends of Tomorrow. In addition to marking the first time that Green Arrow and the Flash (Grant Gustin) meet Supergirl’s famous cousin and Lois Lane, “Elseworlds” will also introduce Ruby Rose’s Batwoman into the Arrowverse and feature Cassandra Jean Amell as Nora Fries and LaMonica Garrett as the Monitor. Lost‘s Jeremy Davies will play an insane Arkham Asylum doctor whose machinations lure Supergirl, Green Arrow, and the Flash to Gotham City.
