Story By: Greg Berlanti & Marc Guggenheim
Teleplay By: Marc Guggenheim & Andrew Kreisberg
Directed By: David Nutter
Starring* Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen), Katie Cassidy (Dinah Laurel Lance), Colin Donnell (Tommy Merlyn), David Ramsey (John Diggle), Willa Holland (Thea Queen), Susanna Thompson (Moira Queen), Colin Salmon (Walter Steele), Paul Blackthorne (Quentin Lance)
Guest Stars: Brian Markinson (Adam Hunt), Roger R. Cross (Detective Hilton), Darren Shahlavi (Constantine Drakon), Kathleen Gati (Raisa), Jacqueline Macinnes Wood (Sarah Lance), Annie Ilonzeh (Joanna), Jamey Sheridan (Robert Queen)
* Some folks listed as “guest stars” might not be listed as such on the actual show; likewise, some listed “guest stars” might be series regulars for all we know. Guess we’ll find out on October 10.- The basic plot of the pilot sees Oliver Queen returning to Starling City after several years missing. Once he returns, though, his former flame (Laurel Lance) isn’t quite happy to see him, and there are people out to kidnap him and find out what really happened to his father following a dangerous shipwreck.
- In addition to Oliver, who was a bit of a jerk in his days before being stranded on an island, there are several other recurring characters. Laurel Lance works for a firm CNRI (City Necessary Resources Initiative) dedicated to help people in need, including some folks who have been scammed by a businessman named Adam Hunt. Oliver’s best friend is “trustafarian” playboy Tommy Merlyn. Paul Blackthorne plays Detective Quentin Lance, Laurel’s father; and Jacqueline Wood plays Sarah Lance, Laurel’s sister, in flashbacks.
- Oliver Queen has a younger sister, Thea, who he refers to as “Speedy.” She’s the only person who gets away with calling him “Ollie.” She has a bad girl streak in her, and Oliver will probably have to keep her in check. His mother Moira is still alive in this continuity, and she has remarried, to Walter Steele. John Diggle is hired to guard Oliver after a kidnapping attempt.
- Adam Hunt’s name ends up on a list of bad people that Oliver gets from his late father.
- Contrary to early rumors and casting notices, the character of Cat Grant is
not in the pilot.
- A mask appearing to be that of Deathstroke is seen on the island. Marc Guggenheim
has confirmed in a podcast interview that “that is most definitely the mask.”
- Here is how The CW describes the pilot:
<BLOCKQUOTE sab="145">
After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine. The

- Some possible hints about Episode 2 from Stephen Amell in his interview at
Examiner.com: “Family does come first. He’s going after these people, but he’s going after them in the name of his father. “Honor Thy Father” is the name of our second episode, and it’s a theme that is carried out in the entire second episode. If Robert Queen said ‘What do you want to do? Do you want to wipe out the entire criminal underworld of Starling City or do you want to save Thea?’ He’d say ‘I want to save Thea’.”
UPDATED 7/18/12: Since she is apparently in Vancouver right now, we are assuming that this is the episode where Kelly Hu plays China White.

- The plot of this story involves both Arrow
and Laurel and her CNRI firm.
UPDATED 7/9/12: Title Revealed. Additionally, we have learned that this episode involves the Chinese mafia.
- Following the lead of “Danielle DiDio,” “John Diggle,” and “Judge Grell,” there might be a character in this episode named “Nocenti.” Ann Nocenti is the current writer of DC’s
Green Arrow comics, soon to take over

TV Guide)
UPDATED 7/29/12: How do things go down between Oliver and Deadshot? “Unfavorably, for Deadshot, I would suspect. I can tell you that they are going to be after some of the same people. Oliver does have a code. Obviously, it doesn’t include ‘no killing,’ as we’ve established so far, but there is a code. I don’t think Deadshot has it. I don’t think he respects his methods, which puts him in Oliver’s sights,” Stephen Amell told us in an
interview at the TCA Press Tour.
UPDATED 7/28/12: We now know who one of the “lone gunmen” is –

UPDATED 7/18/12: No official confirmation on the title, but it seems the third episode of
Arrow will be called “Lone Gunmen.”
- Andrew Kreisberg said in his
Comic-Con interview that the second and third episodes feature characters from DC Comics — one who hasn’t been seen before outside of comics (we’re assuming China White is that character, for episode 2) and one who has. Let the guessing begin…

Guest Stars: John Barrowman (??)
UPDATED 8/27/12: John Barrowman Tweeted today (August 27) that he was shooting, and unless they are shooting out of sequence, the episode currently being shot is the series’ fifth episode, “Damaged.” Colin Salmon is also on set today, which makes us suspect that Walter Steele and this character that Barrowman is playing might have some scenes together.
UPDATED 8/14/12: Title & credits revealed. Any guesses for what it’s about? Maybe dipping in to 1990′s DC and bringing in Damage? Just kidding.
You can guess what it’s about on our forum, though.
Episode #1.6: “Legacies”Tentative U.S. Premiere Date Wednesday, November 13, 2012 on The CW

-
Jessica De Gouw will be playing Helena Bertinelli, the Huntress. She’s expected to be around for multiple episodes. From the casting breakdown:
“Helena is a potential [color:f16c=#006400 !important][color:f16c=#006400 !important]love [color:f16c=#006400 !important]interest</FONT></FONT></FONT> for Oliver Queen; a fellow vigilante, set on destroying her father’s organized crime empire. But Helena’s blind pursuit of revenge will put her on a collision course with the Arrow.”
Other SpoilersUPDATED 8/27/12: Arrow was casting for the role of Kate Spencer, better known to DC Comics fans as Manhunter. We’re not sure when this character is coming to the show. It’s possible that “Kate Spencer” was a smokescreen for casting Helena Bertinelli, but we think with the distinctively different character backgrounds, that Kate may still be coming.
UPDATED 8/15/12: Torchwood’s
John Barrowman has been cast in a not-yet-revealed role of a well-dressed, wealthy man with ties to Starling City. He’s headed up to set today, which means he is either in Episode 4, Episode 5, or both episodes, as reports say he will be recurring. More info as it becomes available, of course…
UPDATED 7/20/12: It sounds as though Oliver’s bodyguard Diggle will learn the truth about him sooner rather than later.
- The producers have a plan for dealing with the history of Laurel’s mother, who is not mentioned in the pilot.
