Each week we post the ratings data in our
[Πρέπει να είστε εγγεγραμμένοι και συνδεδεμένοι για να δείτε αυτόν το σύνδεσμο.] but many of our site visitors don’t venture over there so we wanted to
show you an overview of how Castle has been performing this season.
In recent weeks some fans have expressed concern over the ratings,
particularly those in the key demographic of 18-49 year olds but as
you’ll see from the data below both Castle’s total viewers and those in
the key 18-49 demographic are on par with last season.
Season AveragesAverages based on the first 16 episodes (13 episodes for Live + 7) for each season.
| 18-49 Live + SD | Total Viewers | 18-49 Live +7 |
Season 2 | 2.8 | 10.78 | Not Available |
Season 3 | 2.5 | 10.00 | 3.3 |
Season 4 | 2.4 | 10.50 | 3.4 |
It’s easy to see that during season 4 Castle has not lost viewers but
rather gained .5 million on average. There has been a slight drop in
the 18-49 demographic live + same day from 2.5 to 2.4 but the live +7
figures show there’s actually an
increase in the key demo for the current season.
Of course this data doesn’t take into consideration other factors
either, including online viewing through sites such as Hulu, iTunes,
Amazon and ABC’s own Full Episode Viewer. It also doesn’t take into
account the highly successful Nikki Heat books and the graphic novel
Deadly Storm which all made it onto the New York Times Bestseller list.
ABC has also announced this week there are more books to come including
the next Nikki Heat novel “

If despite all this you’re still concerned about the future of Castle
(and even if you’re not!) then we encourage you to do what you can to
let ABC know how much you enjoy Castle.

What do the numbers mean? All figures are calculated based only on households being monitored by Nielsen (both live & DVR).
18-49 demographic is the percentage of total viewers for the evening across the entire USA in the age group 18-49 years. The Initial figures (known as Live+SD or Live + Same Day) includes those who watch live and those who watch on DVR before 3am.
The “Finals” are the number after any adjustment,
usually for an overrun when Castle starts at 2 past 10 due to Dancing
With the Stars finishing late or due to ABC airing Monday Night Football
in some areas. This means Castle numbers usually drop in after this
calculation is made when DWTS viewers in those 2 minutes are removed.
This also means viewers who would normally be watching in areas airing
MNF instead of Castle don’t get counted at all meaning a naturally lower
number than one would expect.
Live+7 is those viewers included in the initial numbers plus those who watch on DVR within the following 7 days.
The most significant numbers are those in the the live 18-49
demographic because (as antiquated as it may be) those are the age
groups advertisers like to target based on that age group having been
determined as the ones most likely to be influenced by advertising and
to spend money.
